Gather a few things
Large clean flat cardboard pieces and age-rated chunky crayons. An adult prepares the cardboard.
Let’s play
- A grown-up removes staples, tape, and rough or loose edges before play.
- Draw a large animal face outline with ears on the flat cardboard.
- Invite marks for fur, whiskers, or any decoration your toddler invents.
- Stand the picture on a shelf out of reach and introduce your new friend.
A little learning to notice
Name a nose, ears, and eyes while following your toddler’s marks.
Keep a little memory
Write a funny fact about the animal: This bear loves purple socks.
Make it work for your child
Use ordinary paper if cardboard is awkward to draw on. Let your toddler choose the animal and colors.
