Gather a few things
One large sheet of paper and age-rated chunky crayons.
Let’s play
- Draw four roomy squares on a sheet of paper.
- Take turns adding lines, dots, and swirls in a square.
- Invite your toddler to choose a color for your next turn.
- Give the whole picture a name together.
A little learning to notice
Notice different marks: a long line, a round loop, or a cluster of dots.
Keep a little memory
Add the date and everyone’s names. Keep the original or photograph just the artwork.
Make it work for your child
Use two large spaces instead of four. Your toddler can watch or point rather than draw.
