Gather a few things

Large paper, age-rated chunky crayons, and one large toy.

Let’s play

1. A grown-up draws a winding road across the paper.
2. Invite your toddler to add marks for homes, parks, or puddles.
3. Walk the toy along the road. Ask where it is going.
4. Add a cozy stopping place and tell a tiny story.

A little learning to notice

Try words such as beside, around, stop, and home as the toy travels.

Keep a little memory

Write your child’s name for the town on the back, along with the date.

Make it work for your child

A younger child can choose colors while you draw. Repeat a familiar trip for an older toddler.
