EVERYDAY PARENTING

A rhythm for your real life

A routine can be a familiar order of moments rather than a strict clock. Start with one transition that feels hard.

Pick three familiar steps

For a bedtime wind-down, your family might choose pajamas, a book, and a cuddle after your usual hygiene routine. Use the same simple words each time. Make the order easy enough to repeat on a busy day.

Offer a choice inside the routine

You can choose the blue pajamas or the green ones. The routine stays recognizable, while your toddler gets a small decision. Avoid asking whether to begin if beginning is not optional.

Use pictures together

Sketch a book, pajamas, and a bed on one sheet for an adult to hold. Point to what is happening now and what comes next. You do not need a polished chart or a reward for every step.

Adjust without calling it failure

Travel, illness, and changing needs can interrupt the pattern. Return to a familiar step when you can. For persistent sleep difficulties or concerns about your child’s wellbeing, speak with their clinician rather than relying on a generic schedule.
